The number of people in need of long-term care in Germany will rise from around 2.6 million at present to up to 3.4 million in 2030. More and more people will demand medical and nursing services. However, fewer and fewer caregivers are available.

What would happen if technology helped people to become mobile, gave them the opportunity to meet other people and participate in social life? This question has been taken up by the GesundAktiv Network (NWGA). The aim of the NWGA is to enable older people to live independently and self-determined lives in their own homes for as long as possible. This is to be achieved through neighbourhood networking with general practitioners, prevention providers and the housing industry as well as through targeted advice and support. Support is available from NXI.

The heart of the care system is the coordinating office at the Albertinen-Haus in the Hamburg district of Eimsbüttel. The NWGA participants receive a comprehensive initial examination and a support plan tailored to their individual needs. Another part of the NWGA is the Personal Assistant for Assisted Living (PAUL). PAUL is a support and communication platform that can be operated via a touch display with a multitude of multimedia and communication functions.

As a cooperation partner within the framework of the NWGA, NXI will not only be responsible for the technical installation of the tablets in up to 1,000 apartments in Hamburg, but also for the informative training of the participants in the Albertinen-Haus and the in-depth introduction to the equipment in the apartments of the participants. In order to counteract the participants’ fears of contact with digital media, NXI, in cooperation with the Albertinen-Haus, introduces senior citizens to the functionalities of the devices.
